Nepalese Skydivers Jump Solo for the First Time in Pokhara

Everest Skydive in partnership with private domestic airline company Tara Air, have launched skydiving in Pokhara. Test flights were conducted successfully yesterday and today at Pokhara’s Chhine Danda. Skydivers flying on Tara Air’s Pilatus Porter aircraft leaped from 14,000 feet and landed at the site of the Pokhara International Airport ( under construction). First day’s (1st Nov 2010) action saw Everest Skydive’s main organizer and co-ordinator, Mr. Suman Pandey and Wendy Smith, plus officials from Ministry of Tourism & Civil Aviation taking the leap. Veteran skydivers share their Everest Skydive experience

On 20th October 2010, Explore Himalaya met up with veteran skydivers Roger Hoe from England and Peter Rotelle from Germany who had just arrived from Lukla after skydiving solo from 28,000 feet at Shyangboche drop zone. Roger Hoe, who turns 65 in a month’s time, holds the distinction for being the oldest skydiver to jump solo from 28,000 feet. Everest Skydive 2010 Update

Today’s action saw skydivers Peter Rottele (Germany), Roger Hoe(UK), Ryan Jackson(UK) and Kevin Hardwick(UK) freefalling solo from 28,000 feet.Roger, who is 65 years old, became the oldest skydiver to jump solo from this height. Explore Himalaya congratulates him for this incredible feat.

ESD 2010 (Autumn) – Day 3 Jumps

Friday,October 15, 2010- Shyangboche Drop Zone First Lift (8:45 AM) – 21,000 feet On the first lift, Derek Thomas(British), Roger Hoe(British) and Peter Rottele(German) made solo jumps from 21,000 feet while Klaus Leo Gachter(American) jumped tandem with tandem master Kevin Hardwick(British) from the same height. Second lift(9:10 AM)- 29,5000 feet Second lift saw the skydivers leaping from 29,500 feet.
